Saboteur – Bluff, Digging, and Betrayal in the Mine
Honest Gold Digger or Shadowy Traitor?
In Saboteur, you play as dwarves mining for gold nuggets deep in a mine. But beware, the darkness hides malicious intentions: among you are saboteurs ready to do anything to prevent the prospectors from reaching the treasure. The problem? Nobody knows who's who! You'll have to build a labyrinth of tunnels while observing your companions' every move.
The goal of the game? The prospectors must connect the starting card to the gold nugget, while the saboteurs must prevent them from doing so until the draw pile is exhausted.
A hidden roles and building mechanic
The game relies on constant paranoia and tactical hand management:
-
Secret Roles: At the beginning of each round, you receive a role card. Will you be a hard worker or the one who collapses the tunnels?
-
Labyrinth Building: In turn, play "Path" cards to advance towards the three potential destination cards. But beware, only one hides the real gold nugget!
-
Actions and Blockages: Break a suspicious player's pickaxe, cause a rockfall to destroy a tunnel, or use a "Plan" card to peek under the destination cards.
-
Bluff and Psychology: If you're the saboteur, don't reveal yourself too quickly! Play useful cards, then at the crucial moment, lay a dead end to block everyone.
Why Saboteur is an essential classic?
-
Explosive interaction: This is the ideal game to energize a group. Accusations fly, alliances are formed and broken in seconds.
-
Up to 10 players: Few board games allow so many people to play while remaining so fluid and engaging.
-
Fast and addictive games: A round lasts 10 minutes, and we usually play three rounds. The satisfaction of unmasking a saboteur (or successfully sabotaging) is immense.
-
Compact format: A small box that can be taken anywhere, ideal for holidays, evenings with friends, or lunch breaks.
