Luz - The Trick-Taking Game Where You Don't See Your Cards
The art of betting on the unknown
Luz is a revolutionary trick-taking game: you hold your cards upside down! Like in a Hanabi, you see the value of your opponents' cards, but you only know the suit of your own (thanks to the card backs). Your mission? Bet on the exact number of tricks you will win without ever seeing the face of your hand.
The goal of the game? Accurately estimate your future victories. The closer your bet is to reality, the more points you score. An exact bet propels you to the top!
A mechanic of deduction and risk-taking
Luz requires constant analysis of the table to compensate for your "blindness":
-
Partial information: You know you have three blue cards, but are they strong or weak? Observe the other players' cards to deduce, by elimination, the strength of your own hand.
-
The bidding system: Before starting the round, each player must announce their contract. This is where the "mind game" begins: will you play it safe or attempt a daring bid?
-
Follow suit: The basic rules of trick-taking apply (you must follow suit). If you don't have the suit, you can trump or discard, which adds a layer of strategy to managing your "invisible" hand.
-
Trump and strategy: A trump suit is designated, making the calculations even more interesting.
Why Luz will surprise your players?
-
A "game-changing" concept: Playing with cards upside down completely alters the classic dynamic and breaks the routine of traditional card games.
-
Compact and elegant format: A small, easy-to-carry box, with sober and refined illustrations that make the game easy to read.
-
High tension: Every card played is a revelation. The satisfaction of winning a trick that you predicted with a card you couldn't see is immense.
-
Replayability: Situations change radically with each deal, forcing players to constantly adapt their logic.
