Azul: The Strategy and Tile-Placement Game
The art of mosaic in service of strategy.
Inspired by "azulejos" (ceramic tiles of Moorish origin), Azul puts you in the shoes of a decorator artisan. Your mission is to decorate the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora with colorful tiles. But beware: you're not alone on the job, and precious materials are limited!
The concept? It's a game of drafting and filling. Each turn, you collect tiles from "factories" to complete the rows on your personal board. Once a row is finished, you place a tile on your wall and score points. But if you take too many tiles or the wrong colors, they fall to the floor and make you lose points!
Why Azul is a gaming masterpiece:
-
"Jewel" Components: The resin tiles are a joy to handle. They are heavy, smooth, and clink pleasantly, transforming each game into a sensory experience.
-
Simple to Learn, Difficult to Master: The rules can be explained in three minutes, but the strategy is real. You need to monitor your own wall while blocking opponents to force them to take tiles that will penalize them.
-
Building Tension: The more the wall fills up, the more crucial the choices become and the more costly the mistakes. The end of the game is often a moment of high tactical tension.
-
Total Replayability: Each game is different depending on the tile arrangement and the aggressiveness of your opponents. It's a game you'll never tire of.
